Section 86
Appointment of a non-expedited arbitration board

The Director may make appointments of arbitrators necessary to constitute an arbitration board. When parties require non-expedited arbitration but cannot agree on an arbitrator, on application of either party, the director has the authority under the Labour Relations Code to make the necessary appointment. Previously, these appointments were made by the Minister of Skills Development and Labour. The applicant should provide brief details of the steps taken by the parties in their efforts to reach agreement on an arbitrator. The arbitration board appointed by the Director invariably consists of a single arbitrator.

You can get a Request for Appointment application in WORD format.

Please note that applications to CAAB can only be made by mail, by fax, or in person.
