In August, the Board posted two mediator vacancies. We were pleased to announce one of them had been filled by Mark Brown, and at that time advised the other competition for the remaining vacancy was ongoing. Because of the number of incredible applicants who showed interest, we have elected to hire two additional mediators.

Vice Chair Carmen Hamilton, who joined the Board in July of 2022, has been assisting the mediation department since earlier this year. Following the expiration of her OIC appointment in July 2026, she will continue on with the Board in the position of full-time mediator. In the meantime, Carmen will continue to take on mediation files until she transitions fully into the role of mediator.

The remaining vacancy has been filed by Shannon Murray, who will be starting in the role of mediator on December 8, 2025. Shannon joins us from the BCGEU where she has most recently held the role of Executive Director of Field Services. Shannon brings a wealth of experience in collective bargaining, grievance resolution, and mediation through various senior roles with the BCGEU.

We also advise that Trevor Sones has concluded his time at the Labour Relations Board to pursue private practice as a Labour and Employment Mediator and facilitator of Professional Development workshops. Trevor has been an integral part of the Board’s Mediation team for the past 17 years. His move into private practice marks an exciting new chapter and we have every confidence in his continued success.
